“Life is just one small piece of light between two eternal darknesses.” - Vladimir Nabokov
You can't help but look smart by quoting the great Nabokov. I highly recommend reading him. Especially his memoir/autobiography "Speak Memory." Now that I think of it, it's probably time to re-read that great book. I have found so much joy and wisdom in books. I recommend searching out the great books. Human beings writing down their experiences, their thoughts, their imaginings. It is a lifetime's work just trying to catch up with all the intelligence, beauty, joy, & wisdom in all the pages of the great books.
I do think we need to do our best in that small piece of light. There are no guarantees. Even if you believe in a certain life after death, or some grand recycling program for souls, it is this now, this moment, this today where we find everything. People come and go. Things are constantly changing. We live in a flow. Even when we think we are standing still, we are not. Everything is moving, changing, morphing, growing, dying, spinning. No sense in shutting the light out intentionally. Life is good. The light is good. You must believe. Moment to moment.
