Let's just say that there are segments of our culture, society, political sphere, entertainment landscape, that have totally gone off the rails. Beyond the pale, beyond understanding. Hard to get one's head around. It is hard to keep up with the looney-tunes nature of our modern dystopia. And the evil-doers, the bad actors, the world-class assholes seem on the rise; bold, loud, annoying and toxic. And no matter what, they always seem to go dodge, to weasel out of any accountability. It is an affront to any sense of Truth, Justice, The American Way.
It doesn't seem equitable, or good, or fair. Ha. What the fuck am I supposed to do about it? That's the joke right?! Helpless in the face of the madness. The joke really is on all of us. So, anyway, outrage is pretty useless. Laughter is so much better. I don't think the laughter is a surrender, it is just a hard-won acknowledgement of the futility, absurdity & general weirdness of living with Human Beings. Laughter is a useful tool and a healing.
What do I take from all of this? Keep going, head up, smile on my face, meeting the day, doing the best I can. It's a big, complicated Universe out there. Damn the torpedoes. Don't worry about the assholes, they are legion, and finally, you know, they will get what they deserve. Their fate? They have to live with themselves, and be the assholes they truly are. Not an enviable way to be or to live. That is funny. Maybe the laughter opens a crack in the firmament, revealing a glimmer of light, a tiny doorway to a better world? One can only hope. So yeah, I conjure up new dreams, imagine better worlds and better humans. Really. No joke.
