Often, one feels lost, and at sea. Floating in the Sea of Unknowing & Uncertainty. It is very disorienting & distressing. There is an elaborate Human Maze, a Human-constructed hall of mirrors that we live in. It is easy to feel trapped. Helpless.
As Paul Simon once sang in his great song "The Boxer" : "Still, a man hears what he wants to hear, And disregards the rest..."
Such a limiting strategy. A strategy to be wrong, confused, clueless, out of touch, and blind to the rest of the world. Alternatively, there is mystery. Maybe embrace the mystery all around us? Maybe that is where hope can be found?
I think of Leonard Cohen's magnificent song "Anthem,"
"You can add up the parts
You won't have the sum
You can strike up the march
There is no drum
Every heart
Every heart to love will come
But like a refugee
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in
That's how the light gets in"
Nature has not perfected the "perfect Human." Or then again, the maybe "perfect Human," is just completely Human, flawed, complicated, contradictory, partial, and a work in progress? Subject to positive and negative forces. We are broken beings. You know, we just happen to be "drawn that way." But as our great sage Leonard Cohen tells us that brokeness opens cracks, and that's "how the light gets in..."
