Pop Culture References...

Yikes. When we  heard the news that a United Healthcare President, an executive in a major health insurance conglomerate was gunned down on the streets in New York City, our first thoughts: "Mr. Robot."  & "V for Vendetta."

Then we heard that the bullet casings were inscribed with these words: "Delay, Deny, Defend."  Later we found out that there was book titled "Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don't Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It"

When we hear about record profits, ($6.6 billion dollar profit for the 3rd quarter of 2024), for this particular insurance company, we are smart enough to know that they make their money by denying benefits to sick and often dying patients. Not a very admirable way to make a living. It's wild how sometimes pop culture informs the wider world.

Can't help wondering: Is the gunman just a canary in a coalmine? You know, "every billionaire is a policy failure" & "it takes a village to make a billionaire." Maybe the downtrodden villagers, those denied, those deceased, those who are currently suffering, are getting restless? Vast & rampant income Inequality is a disease...
