When you say "this film-maker is an artist" it is absolutely true if you are speaking of Julian Schnabel.
He has made an amazing string of films. Beautiful, indelible "artistic" films. And he brings his painter's eye and supremely artistic sensibility to all of his work.
His latest film is about a Palestinian girl growing up in Israel. Which is no doubt a highly-charged subject that is already bringing a lot of heat and controversy. Some people just don't want to see a "Palestinian" depicted as a human being. I figure it is a must-see film, just as Before Night Falls and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly were must-sees too.
"Like I said, the concept of having an even hand, to make something more balanced — I don’t think that’s the job of an artist." - Julian Schnabel
