Sure. It's an old classic film. So great. Truly iconic. Does it live up to it's reputation? Yes. It does. It's wild to realize that it was released while World War II was raging, people were dying, and, well, folks didn't really know how it would all turn out.
Would the Nazis conquer all of Europe? Great Britain? Russia? Would the Nazis one day march into New York City?
Funny. Nowadays, it seems folks here in America have forgotten that the Nazis were the bad guys. And the current President and his cabinet of deplorables are very Nazi-like. They are enthusiastic purveyors of Hitler's "The Big Lie." Happy to kidnap and send folks off to concentration camps. And they didn't have to conquer America, the Republican party actually embraced these wanna be Nazis. WTF? Yikes.
So, yeah, it was an enjoyable evening; gorgeous b&w filming, no CGI, Bogart & Bergman, Henreid, Greenstreet & Lorre, Claude Rains, Dooley Wilson. All the great characters. Indelible.
At the end of the film, so satisfying, what are we left with? People, just people, common folks, standing up for what's right, in opposition, resisting the lies & the hate, doing the right thing in face of difficult times. Rising up, choosing to be selfless for a bigger truth & cause. People can change the world for the better. Truly. Yes. A good reminder for our present dire circumstances here in good, old USA.
