What drives you? There is a need to express yourself. A desire to make something beautiful, challenging, well-made.
You know, making things is a fleeting act of Hope. It's sort of a big "What if?" And "Damn the Torpedoes." What happens when you send these things out into the Universe? Who knows? It is all a crapshoot.
There's a tension between "getting your Hopes up," and "not getting your Hopes up." You fire yourself up, and then, often, you need to reel yourself back down. You are always bumping up against the real. You can imagine a better world, a better day, a better way, you try to live it too, and then you face the forces of reality.
So often you are surprised. Some things land with great effect. And then there are those experiments, ideas, actions that crash & burn. The crashing & burning is just part of the process too. You learn. Yes. And then time for a new improvisation. It's a of life, a way of living & being.
