It is a bit depressing, and bracing. Pretty sure my country is really messed up and I feel helpless. People in power just don't seem to give a shit about most of the rest of us. The Senate just voted for a tax cut bill that is really, really unpopular. That's not how Democracy - "a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections" is supposed to work.
It seems it's just more evidence that this Democracy is not really a Democracy at all. I think it's fair to say we live in an Oligarchy - "a government in which a small group exercises control especially for corrupt and selfish purposes." I hate to be cynical this morning, but it sure looks like it's just a money game. And money loves money.
And really maybe it's more accurate to say we actually live in a Kakistocracy - "Government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens." I hate to think it, to say it, to write, but this morning it feels like we're totally fucked.
