Questions... Questions... and More Questions...

I haven't even finished the book yet, and I'm already on my 3rd post (see 2 previous posts),  about Questlove's great book "Mo' Meta Blues."

Why do I love this book? It's over-stuffed with ideas. It has gotten me thinking. It has inspired so many thought-trains. Lots of intriguing ideas. Questions. Many questions to ponder and ruminate over. What more can you ask from a book?

Questions? Yes, questions like:

What is a memoir? What is a man? What does it mean to be an author? How does memory work? What do we choose to remember, what do we choose to forget? How do you tell the story of your life? What is identity?

What is music? What is authentic? What is Art? What is Commerce? What is success? What is critical acceptance? What is artistic integrity? How do we all live a fruitful, balanced, sane life?

What is R&B, Rap, Soul, Hip-Hop, Neo-Soul? What's good? What's not good? What is enough, or not enough? Is it OK to question everything? What do we know? And how do we know it?

Is Questlove black enough? Are the Roots black enough? If a black act sells lots of records to white people are they less authentically black? What the hell does that even mean?

What a great book...
