Loyal - "unswerving in allegiance: such as (a) faithful in allegiance to one's lawful sovereign or government were loyal to the king (b) faithful to a private person to whom faithfulness is due a loyal husband (c) faithful to a cause, ideal, custom, institution, or product a loyal churchgoer loyal to the party of their forebears (d) showing loyalty a loyal friend"
A fundamental, foundational question we all must ask ourselves: What are you loyal to?
One gets the sense that we we all soon be required to submit "loyalty oaths." Seems our "current President" expects unbridled loyalty from all his various boot-licking lackeys.
And it seems he is a man, a shabby excuse of a man, who is only loyal to himself.
We usually expect something better, something more lofty: loyalty to the "rule of law," loyalty to the Constitution, loyalty to the State, the People, loyalty to something high-minded and noble.
This is a different time.
And what of me? I'm loyal to a vision of creative freedom: art, love, grace, beauty, inspiration, music, poetry, and an inbred rebelliousness. As the song says: "I'd rather be a free man in my grave, than living as a puppet or a slave..."
Still, give me liberty and life, sweet life...
